To increase and enhance breeding capacity, Seminis has begun construction on a new research facility in Felda, Fla.
Following the purchase of 20 acres in Felda in July 2006, just a few miles from the existing Seminis facility, work is underway to construct a new office building, including seed storage, a seed and equipment warehouse, and three new breeding greenhouses. As of January 2008, work on the greenhouses is nearly complete and the ground breaking for the offices will take place in February. Estimated completion for the site is October of this year. After the new station opens, Seminis will continue farming activities at its present location where it operates on 150 acres.
The new site will provide Seminis new opportunities to continue its focus on research, breeding and trialing and to introduce new varieties that are well-adapted to the southeastern United States.
