Doug Heath, a wonderfully gifted plant breeder, was an understudy to Colen Wyatt when he first joined Seminis Vegetable Seeds, and he learned a lot from him. When Colen retired, Doug took over one his fun projects, pumpkin breeding. Colen had been working on an improved giant pumpkin, and Doug picked the project up where Colen left off. Doug has named the new cultivar 'Wyatt's Wonder' in memory of Colen. Wyatt's Wonder is an open pollinated variety in the cucurbita Maxima family. Fruits easily reach incredible sizes of 70 to 150 pounds, depending on growing location and cultural practices. This very attractive pumpkin confidently separates itself from the 'giant blob pumpkins' by its beauty. Wyatt's Wonder fruits are high- round shaped with a deep reddish orange exterior, uniform shape, size and color, yielding more marketable or useable fruit. The vines of this giant exhibition pumpkin are large and vigorous, so this is not for small gardens. Yield potential is very good under normal growing conditions. Maturity is about 115 days from seedling emergence in the garden.
