Toma Verde

Tomato Varieties:

Toma Verde

The tomatillo is related to the tomato, both are in the solanaceae family. Tomatillos are used to make Mexican "Salsa Verde." For maximum flavor Toma Verde should be harvested green (before they turn yellow) when their tartness is at its peak. The somewhat sticky fruit is enclosed in a thin husk that should be removed before the fruit is eaten. Toma Verde is a large variety that is widely adapted. Treat the plant as you would a tomato plant. We let ours sprawl on the ground instead of staking or caging. They are very easy to grow and a must for great salsa.
