An outstanding vigorous hybrid, Viva Italia makes open-pollinated strains of roma tomatoes obsolete for several reasons, not the least of which is outstanding flavor! Most Italian pear-shaped varieties are fine for peeling and canning, but they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to fresh eating quality. But Viva Italia is a wonderful exception. High in natural sugars, this main-season hybrid is recommended fresh-off-the-vine eating, peeling, canning, and sauce, and salsa. Viva Italia sets fruit much better in hot weather than other roma types. And the tame, compact plant habit takes less garden space and yields considerably more fruit. Also, fruit ripen from the inside out rather than the bottom up. Viva Italia fruit have a blocky-pear shape, and the average 3-3.5 ounces. This strong hybrid is loaded with disease tolerance.
